Impairment Goggles & Glasses: Focus on
Impaired Driving Prevention

December is an exciting time, a month of holidays, time off, and celebrations. Too often, however, these celebrations involve alcohol, getting behind the wheel instead of making a plan to get home safely beforehand, and driving under the influence. And, all too frequently, the outcome of the decision to drive while impaired results in serious injury and death.

Two of the deadliest days of the year on America’s roads are Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. For this reason, December is National Impaired Driving Prevention Month, an important time to raise awareness about the dangers of impaired driving and inspire individuals to take personal responsibility to keep our roads safe.

In the United States, about one-third of traffic fatalities are the result of alcohol-related crashes, resulting in more than 10,000 deaths each year. Every day, around 34 people die in a drunken-driving crash. Each one of these deaths could have been prevented if an impaired driver had not made the choice to drink and drive.

For more than 25 years, Health Edco has been raising awareness of the dangers of driving while impaired by alcohol with our popular line of alcohol impairment goggles and glasses. However, alcohol is not the only cause of impaired driving; other causes, including drugs (such as opioids and marijuana/cannabis) and sleep deprivation, can impair drivers and hinder their ability to drive safely, putting themselves and others at risk.

Read on to learn more about our popular, time-tested line of alcohol impairment simulation goggles and glasses, and check out our new line of Perception Deception™ Goggles, which safely bring to life the realities of impairment from opioids, marijuana/cannabis, and sleep deprivation.

Alcohol Impairment Goggles

Perfect for drivers education courses, alcohol awareness campaigns, and health classes, our DW Eyes Goggles provide wearers with an intense experience by recreating the visual distortion, loss of perception, and lack of control that impair drunken drivers. While not intended to represent a specific blood alcohol concentration, these specially designed goggles provide an impactful, unforgettable experience. While available on their own, the goggles can also be purchased with our complete DW Eyes Game Kit With Goggles or Drunk & Dangerous Package With Goggles, which provide accessories and engaging activities to drive home the dangers of drinking and driving.
Our Boozed & Confused Nighttime Goggles help wearers understand how driving under the influence of alcohol at nighttime affects their depth perception, reaction time, and coordination, all of which are essential for safe, responsible driving. Although the goggles do not represent a particular blood alcohol concentration, wearers quickly understand how alcohol impairment combined with nighttime driving conditions can heighten the dangers for themselves and those around them. The goggles can be purchased on their own or as part of our complete Boozed & Confused Nighttime Goggles Game Kit, which comes with fun accessories and activities to make a profound educational impact on any group.

Alcohol Impairment Glasses

In addition to our popular line of alcohol impairment goggles, we’ve got other great eyewear options to teach about the dangers of drinking and driving. Available on their own as part of the DW Eyes Game Kit With Glasses or Drunk & Dangerous Package With Glasses, our Drunk & Dangerous Glasses alter vision, perception, and balance to provide a realistic simulation of the physical effects of intoxication and why drunken driving is dangerous and potentially deadly.
Great for health classes or workshops, our classroom set of 25 Smashed & Trashed Disposable Glasses is an economical way to reach large numbers of young people with the message that drunken driving can result in deadly consequences. Designed to be worn a few times and then thrown away, the glasses simulate the experience of being intoxicated, including the loss of balance, distorted perception, and disorientation that result from alcohol impairment. The included teaching suggestions make lessons fun, memorable, and powerful.

NEW! Perception Deception™ Goggles

In addition to alcohol, other factors—such as drugs and lack of sleep—can cause dangerous impairment on our roads. Our new Perception Deception Goggles are the perfect eyewear to help viewers understand how marijuana/cannabis, opioids, and sleep deprivation can alter their senses and perception, revealing how driving under the influence of these drugs or while sleep deprived puts everyone on the road in danger.

Wearing the Marijuana/Cannabis Perception Deception Goggles while walking a line helps wearers understand how marijuana (also called cannabis) intoxication can lead to altered senses, confusion, anxiety, and poor coordination.
Trying to perform a simple task, such as texting on a cell phone, is difficult for wearers of our Opioids Perception Deception Goggles, who quickly gain understanding of how opioid intoxication can slow physical activity, cloud thinking, and impair vision.

Falling asleep behind the wheel leads to tragic outcomes. Our Sleep Deprivation Perception Deception Goggles help wearers understand how a lack of sleep can cloud their thinking, slow their reaction time, and lead to drowsiness and confusion, making them recognize the necessity of being alert and well rested before they get behind the wheel.

Designed for use by wearers from grade 4 through adult (ages 9 and up), each set of Perception Deception Goggles comes with a convenient protective drawstring cover/bag.
